Privacy Policy

1. The short version

Family Meal Planner is built to help families plan meals — not to harvest data. We show no ads, run no third-party trackers or analytics, and never sell your information. Signed out, everything you create stays in your own browser; signed in, it's also saved to your account so it syncs across your devices.

2. What's stored, and where

Your meals, weekly plan, pantry, and any meal photos are saved in your browser's local storage, so the app works without an account. When you're signed in, this same data is also saved to your account on our servers (Google Cloud Storage) so it follows you across devices. Clearing your browser's site data removes the local copy; see section 8 to remove the account copy.

3. Signing in with Google

Signing in is optional. It unlocks two things: syncing your meals, plan and pantry across your devices, and the family share link. When you sign in, Google shares your email address with us (using the “openid” and “email” permissions). We store your email in a signed session cookie and use it solely to associate your saved data and share board with you. We never receive your Google password, contacts, or other account data.

4. The family share link

If you are signed in and create a share link, we store a snapshot of your planned meals (their names and photos) and the suggestions family members submit (a meal name, an optional recipe link, and an optional first name) on our servers (Google Cloud Storage). Anyone who has the link can view the planned meals and add suggestions, so please don't include sensitive information in those fields. Your email address is never shown on the public share page.

5. Meal photos

Photos you upload are resized in your browser and stored on the meal (locally, and in your account when you're signed in). If you choose “Generate” for a meal photo, the meal name or description you provide is sent to Google's Gemini API to create an image, which is then stored the same way.

6. Cookies

We use a single essential cookie: a signed session cookie that keeps you logged in after you sign in with Google. There are no advertising or analytics cookies. Signing out removes the cookie.

7. Where it runs

The app is hosted on Google Cloud (Cloud Run, Cloud Storage, and Secret Manager) and relies on Google for sign-in and on Google's Gemini API for optional image generation. Data those services process is also governed by Google's Privacy Policy.

8. Keeping or deleting your data

On-device data: delete individual meals/items in the app, or clear the site's storage in your browser, at any time.
Session: use “Sign out” to clear the login cookie.
Account data & share board: to delete the meals, plan and pantry saved to your account, or to remove your share board and its suggestions from our servers, contact us (section 10).

9. Children

This is a tool for families. It does not require children to create accounts or provide personal information — only a parent or guardian signs in with Google.
